Back to School

I sent my daughter off to school this morning with these itemsShe picked out the fabric back in July when I suggested that I make her a backpack this year. I had two reasons for this suggestion.
  1. Last year she had a breakdown in the store when she couldn't decide which backpack she liked best.
  2. I had seen a cute homemade backpack on somebodies blog somewhere out in bloggerland and I have been dieing to try making one.
I think that it turned out pretty good, considering I didn't have a pattern.
I love reading other people creative blogs, they give me so ideas. The lunch bag and boxy pencil case are a couple of other ideas from bloggerland, I don't know where I saw them but they were tutorials that I had read once, and again something that I wanted to try with my own twists of course. The two little bags are for her crayons because the boxes they come in don't stand a chance in a desk of a second grader. The tall one is for her pencil crayons and the little one for wax crayons.
I have one more backpack to make for my preschooler, but she doesn't start school for another week, so I have plenty of time to get it done....right?

Getting back into the swing of things.

Wow, there it goes...summer holidays are nearly over. My oldest has been counting down the day until she gets to head back to school for the past two weeks. Today she received a post card in the mail from her new teacher. She has been talking about school all day, and been on me about getting the backpack, lunch kit and pencil case done before Monday. I told her I'd get to it tonight....but here I am blogging...I'll get right to it right after I am done here.

With school comes routine. Routine is good. Summer fun is fabulous, but it is always nice to get back into a routine. Hopefully once I'm back in a smooth flowing.....OK, lets not fool ourselves, routines rarely flow smoothly, but once I get into a routine, I hope to start tackling all the projects that I have been drooling over all summer, thinking about at night, over analyzing when I should be sleeping....and then once I start creating, I'll have really exciting things to blog about. First up will be the backpack, lunch kit and pencil case for my daughter.

ooh...I almost forgot! I have been puzzling over this give away idea, I've almost got it sorted out in my brain, when I do, you all will be the first to read about it. I know, the excitement is more than you can bare. I promise it will be soon, so all that excitement won't burst out of you....

How can you tell it's summer?

I can tell it's summer because I haven't even dented that pile of stuff I blogged about two weeks ago. On the up side, I haven't added to it either.

But that is not why I am here to blog today. No, I have something more exciting to tell you about.

I am going to be part of week long give-away over at the Dress-up drawer. I'm not sure which day I will be featured, what I do know is that there will be 9 different give-aways for you to enter each day. So you are just going to have to keep going back to enter mine, and you might as well enter some of the others while you are browsing. So click on the button on the side bar to take you over to the give-away and see what kind of fun things you will have a chance to win.

Saving the planet one bag at a time.

I saw this fabulous idea. I love reusable shopping bags for the following reasons
  1. they fit way more in them than plastic
  2. they are easier to carry
  3. they can be used for so much more than just groceries
  4. they can be used again and again and again
I love these bags because they are stretchy and you can just keep putting more stuff in. If you want some you can get them on my facebook group or if you want to make your own it is sew simple.
  1. find an old T-shirt
  2. cut off the sleeves along the seam
  3. cut off the collar along the seam
  4. you may want to make the neck opening a little deeper to give you a wider opening
  5. turn inside out
  6. sew the bottom shut along the hem line
  7. DONE, now go shopping!
